Blisters can cause severe pain and impede on your ability to walk, wear shoes and go about your daily life. Burning, raised skin can cause discomfort and in serious situations, popped blisters can lead to infection. If you have been experiencing prolonged blisters, new blisters on a regular basis, or if you think that you may have an infection that stemmed from a blister, it is important that you contact an experienced and trusted Seattle podiatrist from the Integrative Foot and Ankle Centers of Washington. We proudly serve the Seattle, Kirkland, Everett and Renton areas.
The best care for blisters is prevention – breaking in new shoes slowly, applying bandages or jelly to areas that may be prone to blisters, and of course, wearing properly fitting socks; however, some blisters may still occur. Blisters can cause other infections, including athlete's foot, if they are not properly cared for. Our Seattle podiatrists recommend never “popping” a blister unless absolutely necessary. If possible, keep the skin clean and aired out and allow your body to naturally absorb the blister back into the body. If puncturing the skin is necessary, only used a sterilized needle or blade and make sure to wash the area fully after.
