Lichen Planus

Overview

A common inflammatory skin condition that produces purplish itchy flat-toped lesions (bumps). When the nail is involved it can cause damage to the plate.

Who gets it?

About 1 percent of the general population can develop lichen planus.

Signs/Symptoms

  • White scales or flakes
  • Gray streaks (Whickham's striae)
  • Iching mild to severe
  • Common on the ankles

Diagnosis

  • Skin biopsy
